Bascilica Cisterns

Happy Friday! I forgot we visited the Basilica Cisterns in Istanbul on the evening of day 1. Built between 527 and 565, the cisterns provided water for the people of Istanbul until 1565. Each cistern can store up to 80,000 tons of water. The cisterns were forgotten and later discovered; today, they are a tourist attraction and museum. Located 150 m below ground, they are impressive. This treasure of history is a must-visit if you come to Istanbul.
