A Weekend in September

I love Sundays because after church we just hangout.  Sometimes we go for walks or the boys will play a game of ping pong with their papa, but mostly we just hang out at home and be with each other which means no play dates, no activities, and  no running all over town.  Today I snuggled with my 5 year old.  We watched  a video on Abraham and Issac.  As we were talking about how Abraham was being obedient even though it was hard to do what Heavenly Father asks Roman said, "sometimes it is hard to hear Heavenly Father." I told him he was right that it is hard to hear Heavenly Father because he talks quietly to us and that we have to pay attention so that we can hear him.  Today we tried a new recipe for Slow cooker soy glazed chicken and it was a huge hit.  Super simple to make too!

On Friday, I made this Buttermilk cake and it was delicious.  I had fun making crafts at the church.  I now have all my teacher gift completed for Christmas.  Yahoo!  Harris spent the night climbing with the Boy Scouts.

On Saturday, Harris went to Robotics at the middle school.  He has a competition coming up in the next month.  Winston and Roman went to German school and afterwards we went to lunch at California Pizza Kitchen.  Then it was off to a soccer game.  I was glad the game was over even though Winston's team lost 4-0 it was so humid outside.  The boys played their hearts out up to the last minute.  Then we went to see Hotel Transylvania.  Super cute!  The boys enjoyed the movie!  They are so cute with those 3D glasses on it just about makes my heart want to burst.

Well, I hope you have a great Sunday and had a fantastic weekend. What did you do?

This is horrible "Corner View"

Addy is walking! This is horrible. My life as I know it is over. Actually, she has been exploring way before she learned to walk. Her favorite place to go is to get into the cabinets and pull out the contents.

Too quiet

It is way too quiet around here.  The big boys went camping up at the lake with their grandmother and a bunch of their friends from church.  I stayed home with the littles which was nice.  I get lots of time with Addy, but rarely do I get time alone with Roman these days.  We made a cake and he colored while I canned some salsa.  I don't know if I am likely this house being so quiet.  Thankfully, they don't all leave home at once because I think I would be a mess.  Well, I am off to bed.  Tomorrow, I go back to the hospital for my training session.  It starts at 8:00 a.m. which means I have to leave the house by 7 a.m.  which means I have to get up at 6:00 a.m. and I am not a morning person.  This week I made the boys some Halloween trail mix. It was made with ghost marshmallows, pretzels, candy corn, M&M candy corn, chex mix , raisins, and chocolate chips. They are getting excited about Halloween being around the corner and are discussing what they want to be.  Roman has decided he wants to be a Power Ranger.  He is all about Power Rangers and Ben 10 these days.  Still loves his super hero's too.  Hope you have a fantastic weekend!

Time for myself "Cornerview"

I am not sure I have much time for myself, but I don't think I would have it any other way.  I love being a mom.  I love being a stay at home mom.  I have always wanted to be a mom.  I find my happiness in serving those in my family.  I am so grateful that I have a husband who supports me in staying home with my children.  He works really hard so that I can stay home with them.  I just don't want to miss the moments.  Addy started walking this week and I can't imagine not seeing her first steps.  I do know that not everyone has the privilage to stay at home, so please don't feel like I am knocking on you.  So what do I do if I have a little time to myself?  I usually go to the gym, read a book, go to the movies, enjoy an occational mani/pedi, and I cook.  I love to cook.  I find it so theraputic.  This week I made peach jam with what is probably the last of the summer peaches.  So yummy! I felt so much joy the next morning when I knew my jam set.   I found this really good website this week that teaches you all you need to know on canning.  I can't wait to try canning tomatoe sauce.  Well, it has been a crazy day thus explaining why I am so late with my post today.  I am now off to soccer practice.  Have a great week!

Around the corner

Fall seems to be just around the corner.  The mornings are cooler the evenings are pleasant.  I love snuggling in my blanket and with the cooler tempetures the leaves are starting to change colors.  I love summer, but one cannot help but adore fall.  We spent the weekend enjoying the harvest.  We picked apples in Ellijay even thought my clever 5 year old Roman said to me, "you know mom that you can just go to Kroger and buy apples.  We came home and immediately made applesauce and apple pie.  My husband fell in love with me all over again.

Thank you everyone for the Birthday wishes.  I couldn't help but feel loved yesterday as my phone vibrated just about all day long from all the messages sent to me over facebook.

Happy Birthday to Me!

Today is my birthday, but since it is a Monday we decided to celebrate over the weekend.  This year I took things into my own hands and made this amazing cake (this was only 1/2 the recipe and the other half went to neighbor).  My husband who isn't much of a chocolate cake fan loved the cake. It was so moist and flavorful.  I made the cake with my new Turquoise Kitchen Aide mixer that I got for my birthday.  I love it!

I went to this new restaurant called Bite with a bunch of my girl friends.  One of them had read a review about it in the newspaper.  The food was fantastic!  I had the grilled steak salad.  I need to find time to drive up there again because I really want to try their fish taco's.

I went to see the movie The Word with my mom and friend Lucy.  I am not sure if I liked it or not. I didn't hate it, but the movie left you kind of hanging.  It was a story in a story in a story.  At times I wasn't really sure what Dennis Quaid's relationship was to the other two stories.  It definitely left me thinking.

I just started to read the book The Thread.  I hope it is good.  Well,  I am off to the hospital this morning.  I am going to be volunteering this year to help other parents who have been given the diagnoses that their child has a heart problem.  I am so excited.  Not excited that they have to go through what our family with, but excited that I can hopefully help them in some way.  Hope you had a great weekend.

The End to a Week

I am so glad it is Friday!  While I am happy the children are back in school, the getting up early is for the birds. Getting up before the sun is up should be outlawed.   This week my husband was away 4 days and boy did we miss him. I don't know how single moms do it.  They certainly deserve a metal or something because I could not do it without my husband.  Besides being pretty dang cute he is a hard worker and he contributes to helping things run smoothly.  We were so happy to have him home today.  Tonight was pizza night.  Do you ever make homemade pizza?  It is pretty simple.  If you have never tried it you should because while you can make bagel pizza's, English muffin pizza's, or pizza made from refrigerator biscuit dough making homemade pizza dough takes only a few minutes.

Pizza Dough
in a bowl measure out one cup of warm water then add 2 teaspoons of yeast along with one tablespoon of sugar.  Let sit for a couple of minutes and when the yeast starts to bubble add 1 Tablespoon of olive oil, 1 teaspoon of sea salt and 2 1/2 cups of flour to 3 cups.  Kneed until smooth.  If you have mixer you can use the dough hook and in minutes you will have a smooth piece of dough.  I like to add a tablespoon of chopped garlic to dough for extra flavor.   Place dough in greased bowl and let rise for one hour or more.  Dough should double in size.  Later preheat oven to 400 degrees.  You can make one giant pizza or  4 personal size pizzas by shaping out to into circles.  If you have pizza stone preheat in oven and then sprinkle with cornmeal.; otherwise, you can use a cookie sheet.  I like to use parchment paper when I use a cookie sheet to assure they don't stick to pan.  You can also use one of those circle pans with the ventilation holes underneath.

Top with favorite topping and bake in oven until crust is brown and cheese is melted which is about 10 minutes.    It really is simple.  The children love putting their own toppings on their own pizza's.

Well it is time to relax  so I am going to pop a can of diet coke and put up my feet and look for a good movie on TV.  Hope you have a fantastic weekend!  Roman has his very first soccer game tomorrow.  How about you?  Do you have anything fun planned?

impression "Corner View"

OK, so I told you back here that I was redecorating my bedroom.  It was a pretty sad and lonely space in the house.  I purchased new linens and that was about as far as I got.  Husband nor I have had the time to build the side tables, but I have been looking at art.  Nothing was leaving a lasting impression on me.  Nothing spoke to my heart because it was either too trendy, to tacky, to expensive, and so on.  There are about three walls in the room and one of them is very large.  My neighbor suggested buying a piece of furniture to put against the wall, but I really don't have a need for a piece of furniture such as an armoir.  Plus, I just don't have any money  in my budget right now to buy any furniture.  Then I had the impression that I should use my own photos.  While I am not the best photographer in the world,   I think my photography is better than average.  These are some of the photos I have selected.  My neighbor thinks I should have a pop of color like the flower.  I am leaning towards all black and whites.  I would frame all of these photos with a unifying frame.  What do you think I should do????  Some of you might be wondering why there aren't any photos of the children and that is because I have black and whites of the  children throughout my house.   I even have some water colors that I have picked up from street artist along the way that I might use too.  I love to travel .  So why not display my photos of my travels.

Today didn't end like I wanted it too, but I think it was just what we needed.  Today was our first day of German school and we even made it there on time and with a few minutes to spare after dropping off the food we had collected for the Atlanta Food Bank.  Our church in collaboration with a few other big companies here in the state collected food for the food bank.  Our goal was to collect a 100,000 pounds of food.  Sadly, that amount is only enough to feed the city for about one day.  Our plan was to go apple picking after school despite the weather not being very nice.  I figured as long as it wasn't pouring rain we could go; however, once we got home to drop off our stuff and grab a bite to eat it was apparent we weren't going to go anywhere.  Roman said he felt like he was going to throw up.  So his brother grabbed the trash can and placed it by his side.  Then I felt his head and he was burning up.  I don't know why I didn't check that first since Addy had a fever on Tuesday and I had one on Wednesday.  Thankfully, the fever doesn't seem to last, so I suspect he will feel better tomorrow.

So I guess you are probably wondering what this photo has to do with Roman being sick.  Nothing, but I thought  I would show you what I made on Thursday.  I made homemade Caarmels.  I had set a goal earlier this year after reading about how easy they are to make on Dana's blog. I love Carmel's and I don't know very many people who don't like them.  Anyway, I was determined to learn how to make them,, Dana suggested using Ina Garten's Salted Fluer de Sel Caramels.  First try wasn't so successful since I tried to make them just as the children were coming home from school.  I accidentally used  salted butter and put to much vanilla in them.  They were to salty and to bitter from the vanilla.  Second try no little kids around, but without a proper thermometer I cooked them too long even though I cooked them the suggested length of time and they turned out to be toffee.  The third time I made a home run and they were perfect.  My only suggestion in making this recipe would be to cut them much smaller than Ina suggest.  Hers were too big.  These caramels are perfect. So creamy, sweet, with a touch of salt.  I gave mine away as a baby gift to a mother at our church who is having her first baby.  She told me she is going to hide them in her suitcase and eat them after she delivers the baby.  Well, I hope your weekend is going better than mine.  Happy Saturday!

14 months

I can't believe my baby is 14 months and in a couple weeks 15 months.  Time is really going by too fast except at night when I wish she would sleep through the night and not wake her very sleep deprived mommy up two to three times a night. Doesn't she know I need sleep.  So maybe all of you (my friends) can say a prayer that she will learn to sleep.  I am so tired that I can barely think.

Addy has two new teeth.  Two on top and two on the bottom.

She took her first step the other day, but hasn't taken any since then.  I think it will be soon.  I sure am going to miss her little hands slapping the ground when she crawl or how she pivots around in a circle when she wants to turn around.  Seriously, it makes my heart just melt.

She is a total mommy's girl and often no one else can comfort her except me.  Nice and not nice; especially, when you want to go to the gym and she cries when I hand her over to the daycare provider.

Man of man is she a pistol.  She has learned to throw a tantrum.  It is too funny to watch her spread her body out on the ground and cry and then 5 seconds turn it off like nothing happened.

She knows what she wants.  The other day at the gym a baby had a pacifier and even though she herself does not use one she chased that poor baby around the room until she managed to take it away from him and stick it into her mouth, but only to chew on it for a minute.

She has added some new foods to her diet such as mac and cheese and blueberries, but she only likes the inside of the blueberry and will spit out it's shell.

She is a wizard a climbing the stairs, but hasn't figured out how to go down and so she will sit at the top and squawk until someone comes to get her.

I love you Addy girl!
