The Great Wall!

When I looked out the window this morning the sky was completely overcast and you could barely seen the sun which lead me to worry a little bit because I knew this meant we would not have very good visability.  Our guide and driver picked us up at our hotel around 9:00 am and we drove to the Great Wall.  While there is a location much closer to the city we choose to go to the Mutianyou location which is only open in the winter.  It has fewer tourist, but what is fun about this location is you can take a cable car up and a tobagan done.  I thought this would be really fun for Winston.  So 90 minutes later we were there.  We drove mostly on the hwy, but we drove through some smaller towns and country side.  An eye opener to say the least.  The wall itself is not that tall, but to think about how long it stretches is pretty impressive.  The boys and I spent over an hour walking along the wall.  At first the visability was not very good, but the longer we stayed the sun came out.  Thinking  back on it, I can't believe I walked on the Great Wall of China!  What a dream!  I had a paparazzi moment as we were leaving the wall.  A group of Chinese people insisted on having their picture taken.  It was pretty funny!  We bought a few souviniers, but I am pretty sure we didn't get a good deal.  While most food is realitively inexpensive everything else is not and the days of getting a bargain are over!  Well, I have been up since 4:30 am, so I am going to go to bed.  We did visit the Olympic sights after leaving the Great Wall, but I will write more on that tomorrow.  2 more sleeps until we have Avery!!!!!  Good night from Beijing!

Glad that you love Beijing. I thought that I would not like it here when I first relocated here but after staying for a year, Beijing tends to grow into you. Mutianyu was the first section of the Great Wall that I visited when I first came. Since, then I have went back one more time besides visiting other parts or sections of the wall. Too bad that I missed your post while you were here, as we busy shifting to another apartment. Anyway, if you are interested to see some write up of my visits in China or travels, you are welcome to visit http://mynikonni.blogspot.com. You are also invited to follow me on my facebook page at Laowai In China...Cheers...
