Eltz Castle

I almost forgot that we stopped at Eltz Castle on our way down to Stuttgart. Isn't this castle incredible!  It is the perfect middle age castle of fairytales. Can't you just see a dragon sitting on top breathing fire and a knight trying to defend its princess?  This castle is about a 2-hour drive from where we live, but only 90 minutes from Frankfurt.  The construction of the castle began in the 9th century and in the year 1157, the Emperor deeded the castle over to Rudolf von Eltz and has been in the families possession ever since.  The castle has never been destroyed and throughout time rooms and additions have been added to the castle. The castle lays strategically along the trade route of the Moselle River.  It is definitely worth the drive.

Where is Ivy?  She wasn't feeling well and opted out of participating in the photos.  Have a Great weekend!

It amazes me how many castles you guys visit, I think the Disney castle was the closest I ever came.
Wow that place is dreamy!!! I would love to visit one day! Thanks for taking us along virtually!
Yes, I can easily see a dragon perched atop the castle. The last photo made me smile. I hope Ivy is feeling better already.

What a grand castle! It goes back many years...I'm surprised it's still standing. So much history. And a sweet picture of the little one enjoying her ice cream. : )

Oh, it does look like a fairytale!!! I CAN imagine a dragon (or two!) I heard that this is the sort of castle that Disney used as his model for Cinderella's castle! (I have to stop using exclamation points for every sentence!) Seriously, it is on my bucket list to travel along the Rhine and tour castles until I drop!!

I expect to see a princess with a pointed hat come running down that walkway. How very beautiful.
