Corner View Best Kept Secret

I just got home last night and I have been trying to think of a best-kept secret. I wanted to share the art of Weiner Schnitzel. When in Germany, I always eat at a restaurant called the Forest Haus. It is located in the town of Butzbach. Why? Because it is the best Weiner Schnitzel I have found in Germany. Well, I am sure there are many other locations for really great Weiner Schnitzel, but Come on you do not mess with a good thing when you find it, so I am loyal to this location. Their price point is very reasonable too. What is Weiner Schnitzel? It is a cut of meat such as chicken, pork, or veal that is pounded thin then dipped in milk, egg, and flour and breadcrumbs. You will find many variations of Weiner Schnitzel, my favorite is Bauer Schnitzel which is Schnitzel covered with caramelized onions and bacon. I would not recommend getting the fast food version of Schnitzel which is pressed meat parts that look like Schnitzel but just isn't. This fast food version is usually served inside a brotchen roll. A good Schnitzel coating should be firm but yet light. Never gritty and I think should be cooked in sunflower oil-olive oil is just too fruity and will change the flavor. I think it is even better when served with a wedge of lemon, and my husband loves it with ketchup. My other favorite location in Switzerland is a place called Weiner Wald located across the street from St. Gallen University; however, this restaurant is spendy.

Wow! Tate would be envious of this dish... he loves bacon. He probably had it when he lived in Germany, but that was 15 years ago. A good reason to go back!
