Buttermilk Syrup

Last winter, my church group did a speed dating night, but just for the woman in the congregation or as we call it our ward.  Now you are wondering how did the woman have a speed date, well it was more like let's get to know each other by every couple of minutes one person stayed fixed in their chair while a new person came into the chair in front of them.  In the couple of minutes of time you had before you had to switch, you could ask them random questions about who they are or there was a card of questions you could use to help you get to now the other people better.  It was so much fun! That evening refreshments were served.  Instead of a potato bar or salad bar the host presented us with  a waffle bar.  Items like fresh strawberries, blue berries, walnuts, bananas and you get the idea, but one of the items being  served to go along with the waffles was Buttermilk Syrup. I was smitten upon my first bite.  My oh my, the stuff is deadly. This weekend I made it for my children and they loved it.

Here is how to make it!  In a sauce pan combine 1 cup of sugar, 1/2 stick of butter, and 3/4 cup of buttermilk.  Once it comes to a complete boil and has boiled for at least one minute passed the beginning of the boil then take the syrup off the burner and stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla and 1/2 teaspoons of baking soda.  Make sure to use a large pan because the mixture can run over. Enjoy over pancakes or waffles.

Heavenly!

Never tasted buttermilk syrup, so that is something I like to try out! Thanks for the tip to use a large pan, because without you mentioning it, I would have used a small pan:)
Many thanks for taking time with your undoubtedly busy summer with all the kids home to share this with SEASONS! And thank you for the birthday wish. Have a great week, Kelleyn!

I love both ideas: speed dating and the ummy buttermilk waffels. I have to try the second one.
What a scrumptious idea! I already had cereal for breakfast, but now I want your pancakes.
