Small Things "Corner View"

The older I get the more I come to the realization that it is the small things that make all the difference! A couple years ago when we were in Switzerland, my son Roman got sick and when we went to the pharmacy and I explained that he had diarrhea and was throwing up they suggested some probiotics.  They totally did the trick.  I had forgotten all about them and then our house was hit with one of the worst stomach bugs we have ever encountered.  It spread like wild fire through our house hitting each and every member of our family every couple of days.  I thought some how I had been spared, but by this Sunday I was feeling ill.  I don't know why I remembered these tiny little pills that are sold over the counter here in the states, but I did and I began taking them right away.  I think they made all the difference because by Monday night I was feeling much better and had recovered much faster than the other members in my family.

Often times I think we put so much importance on big things and fail to recognize the small little things in our lives that really are much more important.  My good friend Lucy always has a way of putting things in perspective by always saying some things are first world problems, and when you think about it many of the things most of us stress over truly are really pretty minor in comparison to the much bigger picture.  So take some time today and tell someone you love them, indulge in a piece of chocolate or cup of tea while listening to your favorite music, go for a walk, buy some bubbles and blow them even if you don't have any children in your  home, do something nice for someone else (the other day someone bought my drink in the fast food line), and the list goes on.  Have a great day!

Strawberry Love

Today was a perfect day minus that I miss my husband.  He is in Germany with his mother celebrating her 70th birthday this weekend.  We slept in, picked strawberries, Winston completed his scuba certification, and he scored 2 goals and assisted the third goal for today's soccer game.  The house is clean and the children are all tucked into bed.  Now I am off to bed as this mommy is very tired.  Hope you have a very happy Sunday!

Avery Goes to the Zoo

My BFF came to town on Thursday, and despite sickness running crazy through my house we were able to do a few things around town.  We started with dinner at my favorite restaurant Baronda.  Buffi had an amazing Pasta dish with shrimp and truffles.  I had a pan seared halibut.  We finished off with dessert of panna cotta and some chocolate creation covered in caramel.  Heaven in every bite!  Friday we got our nails done, did some shopping, and had lunch at Marlowe's!   Saturday we did some more shopping and took my mom out to dinner at Branchwater for her birthday.  Afterwards, we went to see Is Heaven for Real?   which was such a good movie.  Sunday, you know the story, and Monday we headed to the Atlanta zoo.  It was so great having my best friend here for the weekend.  I was sad to see her go, but she needed to go home to her family.

On another note, Winston is now sick and Roman is still sick and I am not sure if they are going to treat him with some antibiotics or check him into the hospital.  We sure could use your prayers.  This mommy is exhausted.

On a positive note, Avery said I love you for the first time tonight!

Addy and Her Easter Dress

I don't even know how to begin this post.  I keep typing and erasing.  Typing and erasing, and the words just don't want to come.  Easter should be a happy time. A time of celebration of Easter egg hunts, good food, family and friends, and a time to celebrate the Lord.  On Thursday, Roman woke up not feeling well.  He said his tummy hurt, but he had a stomach bug the previous week, so I didn't believe him.  I sent him to school.  A couple hours later, I get a phone call that he is in the nurses office complaining his stomach hurts. I told the nurse that I thought he was faking because he was sick the week before, but I would come and pick him up.  No sooner than I get him home, he begins throwing up.  I clean him up and get him into bed. He sleeps a couple hours and seems to feel better; however, I keep him home from school on Friday to keep him from making other children sick.  My best friend had come to town on Thursday and so on Saturday night we take my mother to dinner and a movie.  I am in the movie and I get a text that Roman has thrown up and now my husband is sick too.  I get home and Roman throws up again and has major diarrhea.  I scoop him up and take him to the ER.  How is it possible for him to be sick again when he was sick the week before,  is it something more?  I wasn't sure, so I thought I better just play it safe.  Roman is such a skinny guy and with his heart I just don't like to play around.  Thankfully, it is only a stomach bug, but I guess it is some kind of super bug that is highly contagious.  I guess they have been seeing a ton of cases like this in the ER.  We get home around 5 a.m.  We go to sleep and the girls wake up a couple hours later and now I am totally sick, but not with a stomach bug but I am totally congested and wheezing from allergies.  Somehow my girlfriend and I manage to make Easter dinner, I get a few photos of Addy in her dress, and I send them off  to church.  Avery comes home from church and now it is her turn to be sick.  Ugh!  This Easter wasn't what I planned, but I guess if this is as bad as it get's than we aren't doing to bad.

Another Weekend

Another weekend is upon us and to be honest I can't wait.  It has been a long week.  We have had sick kiddos here at our house.  Roman has the stomach flu.  Avery has a cold that just won't go away, and Addy has a yeast infection and pink eye.  On top of that, my husband was out of town two days this week which makes his 4th or 5th trip since the beginning of this year.  Roman had a normal routine visit to the cardiologist that left us scheduling a cath procedure to balloon open his pulmonary valve.  We have known since his surgery at 3 months old that his pulmonary valve was narrowed and that it was just a matter of time until he would need additional intervention; however, that doesn't make it any easier to hear news that his left side of his heart isn't getting the same amount of blood as the right and if we leave it his left side of his heart will only become weaker.  The only silver lining to this news is that we aren't talking about a replacement of this valve at this point.  I can barely express how much I love this child.  He is the sweetest child on the planet, and has brought so much joy to our family.  Last weekend we made some Applesauce muffins.  They were so good.

Applesauce Muffins
1/4 cup softened butter
1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs
3/4 cups applesauce
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1 3/4 cups of flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda

Combine all dry ingredients and combine all wet ingredients.  Then mix the two together.  Bake at 350 degrees.until golden brown.  Then dip the muffins in 1/4 cup melted butter and then into combined 1/2 cup sugar and 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon.  Enjoy!

Rejuvenation "Corner View"

The weather has still been up and down, but the days are getting longer and with that I am starting to feel rejuvenated.  I think I told you that I have a friend who was diagnosed with breast cancer.  I have never had chemotherapy, but from what I understand it is not fun at all.  She is on a pretty strong dose since this cancer has been acting pretty aggressively.  The week she has the treatment it is as if she has a really bad stomach flu, but yet 24 hours later you are still sick.  She then has two weeks off and begins the process all over again  if her white blood counts are good. Many of her friends have been watching her children or bringing her meals, but I thought I would bring her a brown sugar body scrub.  I though it may help her feel rejuvenated if only for a few minutes. I know winter has left my skin feeling dry and will short weather just around the corner I think this body scrub is a perfect remedy.  It is super simple to make too! Combine 1 cup of brown sugar and 1 cup of white sugar along with 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract.  Then place in a glass jar or a plastic container and  cover with oil oil.  The sugar will exfoliate the skin while the oil with make it soft .Corner View is a weekly appointment - each Wednesday - created by Jane of Spain Daily, where bloggers from all corners of the world share their view on a pre-arranged theme.

3 months

Three months have come and gone with this beautiful girl in our arms.  I wake up each day and feel like we are in a dream.  I can't believe she is mine!  She is such a joy!  In three months she has come a long way from not wanting to look at me to giving me kisses and hugs freely.  She still doesn't completely trust me as she rarely sinks her whole body into mine, but I will take what I can get and I know in time she will.  She is talking up a storm.  She says about 70 English words and still says a couple of Chinese words. She now chooses and picks what she like to eat and how much.  She no longer eats because it is there and she is afraid another meal might not come.  She loves playing outside.  In 3 weeks she will have surgery on her eyes.  I am a little nervous because while they tell me the risk is low their is still a risk which could leave her blind or seeing double.  She started physical therapy this week.  We are working on her balance and muscle strength.  I love the way she says Yes.  She says it with emphasis on the s and draws out the sound so it sounds like Yessss!  This week her citizen papers arrived in the mail.  I can't wait to go apply for her passport.  We are going to Spain in September. We adore you sweet baby girl and everyone is enamored with you! Thank you for coming to our family.

Inspiration "Corner View"

Spring has finally arrived to my corner of the world.  Finally!  Usually we are beginning to enjoy the start of spring by the end of February, but this year we have had a very long winter.  Every chance we get we are spending it outdoors. Yesterday the girls and I went to the park, and today we played in the yard blowing bubbles and drawing on the sidewalk with chalk  Roman has found joy in wandering the forest with his new friend Trent.  Harris is skiing in Utah with his father and Winston is working on his tan while smothered in sunscreen to make sure he doesn't get wrinkles. He cracks me up!  My children are my inspiration.
Waiting patiently are a couple flats of flowers needing to be planted.  I can't help but feel inspired with all that is around me because God has painted such a beautiful canvas.  I am so blessed  God inspires me each day!  His love and mercy for me makes me want to be a better person. I am blessed by all the amazing talent on the Internet and from my fellow Corner Viewers.  The opportunity to travel and see the world has been such a blessing and inspiration. When I was in China we had the opportunity to see how silk was made.  It is seriously amazing and then to see artist take the threads of that silk and create art is truely and inspiration. Inspiration and beauty are all around us!  What inspires you?  Too see more inspiring views from around the world visit Corner View  a weekly appointment shared by people around the globe, an appointment started in the spring of 2009 by Jane in Spain and currently hosted by Francesca over at Fuori Borgo.
