Light "Corner View"

There are no words to describe or to explain the events that occurred on Friday.  I wish I could almost say it is unbelievable, but that would not be true.  Events like this have occurred 37 times in my life time.  Once is to many.  I grew up in a home where we had guns.  We used them for protection as we owned property on the border of Denali National Park.  Guns were a necessity  to protect oneself from bears, wolfs, and a charging moose.  So, I understand the argument very well from those who wish to have the right to bear arms.  What I don't understand is why anyone would need a semi-automatic weapon.  I don't understand why anyone would have these guns in a home where there are children.  They never talk about the accidental shootings that occur each year from a child's curiosity, or the husband or wife who in anger loose their temper and take it too far.  When are we going to say enough.

Across town a friend who lost her 10 year old son three years ago to cancer, is now battling to save her husbands life from pancreatic cancer.  How will she survive?  She is a stay at home mother.  Who will look after her children when they come home from school.  How will she pay the bills!  It seems almost too much to ask of anyone person.

In another home a husband and wife grieve the lost of their 6 year old daughter.  She died this summer to Mitochondrial disease.  There will be no squeals of delight on Christmas morning.  Even the poor dog is grieving.

The grieve is so thick!  The pain is so real!  I hug my children closer.  I put down what I am doing to listen more patiently, and despite all this darkness I have to choose the light.  The light of goodness!  The light that Jesus is the Christ!  That he lives !  That through him everything will be all right in the end for in Psalms 147:3 it says "He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds." I choose to follow the light for it says in 2 Samuel 23:4 "And he shall be as the light of the morning when the sun riseth, even a morning springing out of the earth by clear shining after rain."

I choose to let my light shine to share all that is good in me and with others. In Mathew chapter 5 verse 16 it says, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."  While I am only one I can make a difference.

Kelleyn, this is beautifully written and courageous. I don't seem to have the right words to express my emotions about this, especially over my blog. I am so touched by you and others who can so elequantly say what their heart is feeling. I am with you to choose the light. This is most likely the most tragic event in my life time save 9/11. Thank you for this touching post. Merry Christmas.

That's the best option to take, seeing the light through the darkness. Thanks for sharing your beautiful post during time of grief.

from here, i don't really know how to comment on the gun violence episode - but I am sorry about your friends and their losses. life is so precious and fragile, it ought to be protected.
the image is blurry. how ever the lights are seems to be ok
I hate guns I understand why you needed them growing up where you lived but other than that I can't wrap my head around it. My sister is a gun owner for protection...on any given day I can walk right into her unlocked house....protection I say lock your door! I'm so sad about this loss of young life and the stories you talk about it's a sad sad time for sure.

Christmas can be such a difficult time of the year for so many and often so hard to see the light. Being their for our friends and those we know, trying to help is the true spirit of Christmas. Lights on our homes and in our hearts. Happy Christmas to you and all your family.

Merry Christmas to you and yours.

I so agree with you about the guns. Automatic weapons are to kill people, not tp protect one's home or family. And they do need to be kept away from children. I work with a young man whose brother shot him in the mouth when he was a kid and they were "playing" with a gun. (I think he was about 6 at time.) Luckily, he survived with minor damage - missing front teeth and scars. The situation in Connecticut is so sad and so senseless. Sending positive vibes to your neighbors and friends.
my thoughts exactly... My heart is so heavy at the moment... & I hate the fighting going on about Gun Control... I just don't get it...
Thank you for popping by my blog! :-)

I'm so agree with you about weapons. This tragic event will definitely change things, I hope. It's very sad what happened to the people around you, life is often cruel. Enjoy your family and Merry Christmas to you.

I France, we live without weapons... but not without pain... I hope, somewhere, is a light to erase all of these tragedies.

Nice post.
news of this kind is always dark and tragic. so difficult to remain seeing the light in everything, when senseless drama is all the rage, for some...
you're a courageous woman, kelleyn.
happy holidays to you all.

There's too much pain in this world. Losing a child is something no parent should ever experience.
What happened last week in Newtown is beyond my understanding, I still cannot process it. My heart goes out to those families who lost their loved ones. Last Saturday evening I lit a candle for their children and it was the only light in our sitting room...
