May- June Happenings

Hi!  Hope you are having a good week!  I am in Slovenia this week.  Can't wait to tell you all about it when I get back!  I wanted to share a few things going on in our lives right now more for my sake than yours so that I can remember these events.

I just finished reading the book The Storyteller by Jodi Picoult.  If you have been reading my post for a while, then you know I love books set in WWII.  I picked this book not knowing it was about that time period just because I enjoy reading Jodi's books.  The book set partially in modern-day and partially in 1940s Nazi Poland explores the concept of forgiveness of those who committed the crimes against the Jews.  The main character discovers that one of her customers was a Nazi and even more importantly had a role in her grandmother's story  She grapples with forgiveness and justice in the wake that the man was a model citizen for the last 70 years while also dealing with her own anger and hatred of the crimes he had committed.  Sage also struggles to forgive herself for the things she has done in her own life.  The story is very complex and I am still not sure what to think about the ending. Let me know what you think if you had read this book.

My second born turned 16 in May and got his drivers license.  Not sure how I feel about them all growing up and becoming so independent, but at the same time wouldn't wish him any less.  Way to go Winston.  We love you so much and are proud of the man you are becoming.  He also got his first job this week and is working at a burger restaurant that just opened in our area.

As you might know, My husband spent three weeks working in Asia in the month of May He traveled to South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and China.  His favorite being South Korea and Hong Kong though sadly he didn't budget enough time to see everything that Hong  Kong had to offer.  Guess it is up to me to plan his trip next time.  He did get to see the DMZ just a day before the historic meeting between the two leaders of  South Korea and North Korea. He wants to go back and explore some more and I hope I can join him the next time too!

Frank enjoying a Korean feast with one of his colleagues!

Meeting with the former Prime Minister of Taiwan

The symbol on this statue kind of freaks me out, but way before the
Nazi's used it was used as a symbol of strength.

Well, that is it for now!  Hope you have a great week!  See you back soon!

Wonderful photos! Sounds and looks like a great trip! My granddaughter turned 15 in Feb. and will get her Ohio permit soon. I don't know what all she has to do to get the actual license. She's my second oldest and an 18 month old is my youngest of 7 grandchildren.

Asia is fascinating, lots to see and do. Lovely photos. Driving is another milestone. Congratulations to the happy new driver. Sounds like an expanded trip to Asia is on your radar. Great plan! Susan
