How to Make Fried Rice
Did you know we sometimes eat fried rice for breakfast? In China traditionally breakfast is warm food. Funny how breakfast is different all around the world. In America, we generally grab a bowl of cereal or a piece of toast for breakfast and then on weekends make eggs, bacon, and pancakes. In Germany breakfast is usually an assortment of bread served with jam, butter, cheese, and deli meats while occasionally a 3-minute egg is served along with Yogurt. In China, it is warm foods like Congee which is a rice porridge, dumplings, vegetables, and even fried rice is served. My girls love rice and so occasionally I will make fried rice for them for breakfast because then I know they have started off their day with some veggies and a little bit of protein from the eggs. We of course also eat this for lunch or for dinner too. It is really simple to make! Begin by cooking your rice as per directions of the rice. I use either a Basmati rice or long grain rice for this recipe. You definitely do not want to use sticky rice for this recipe. In another pan add 2 Tablespoons of vegetable oil and add 2 peeled and diced carrots -cook for about 5 minutes on medium heat then add 1/2 of a diced white onion. Cook until carrots are soft and onions are translucent. Then add 2 cloves of chopped garlic and cook for an additional minute then add a 1/2 cup of frozen peas. Once peas are cooked then add your cooked rice along with a quarter cup of soy sauce. Stir until everything is incorporated. At the same time, in another pan with three eggs make scrambled eggs. You can do this in the same pan by pushing the rice to the side, but I like to make them in their own pan. Add the scrambled eggs to the rice stir until incorporated throughout the rice and serve. *note if you like your fried rice darker just add more soy sauce. You can also add a little bit of grated ginger to the veggies before mixing with the rice, but my children like it without. Happy Friday! Have a great weekend.
Did you know that George W. Bush paints? I didn't until I saw a recent interview inquired about his paintings. He sells them and gives the proceeds to veterans. How awesome is that and the painting are pretty good? If I were in San Francisco this weekend I would love to attend this pop-up Museum called Color Factory. It is really one of a kind, and if I were in L.A. I would love to visit the Ice Cream Museum. Recently my husband sent me this video clip. It is totally inspiring. You have to watch!!!!! Our son is leaving for college this weekend. What every parent should do before they leave- watch this! I can't wait for season 2 of the Crown to come out. Have you seen the show? It is on Netflix. I absolutely loved season 1. This season looks to be even more promising than the first.

A lovely day and new week ahead!
George W. Bush is a pretty doggone good artist (I think he likes to take after Winston Churchill). ;) We LOVE the Crown and are looking forward to season two as well. It was suggested to us because we loved Downton Abbey so much.
Thank you so much for stopping by and your kind words. blessings ~ tanna
