Erfurt

Sadly, our road trip had to end, and we needed to make our way west towards Butzbach as our time in Germany was also coming to an end.  After spending the morning in Dresden, we headed west to the city of Erfurt.  Erfurt while it may not be on your average tourist bucket list of places to visit is one of my favorite German towns.  It is just so cute and has such incredible energy for the city.  I would seriously love to go back and spend more time in Erfurt.  Maybe, next time I will use it as a home base and explore other cities from this location.  Once we got to the city we had a couple places we had booked marked that we wanted to see.  The first stop was the Antiquitaeten-Kraemerbrueke-Galerie, a medieval bridge lined with the quintessential Fachwerk houses that date back over 500 years. Next on the list was to find the kid-friendly statues that are located throughout the city from the famous children's TV program network KIKA.  We found Bernd das Brot,  Sandmanchen, and Mouse and Elephant which are just a few of the statues located in the city.  We enjoyed some tasty ice cream and visited one of the oldest Jewish synagogues in Europe.  Winston grabbed a Doner for dinner while sadly the rest of us ended up with Burger King because we had delayed too long and all the more convenient places to eat had closed and we didn't want to sit down to a more expensive meal.  Totally our own fault.  You win some and you lose some.  This concludes our summer vacation in Germany.  When we got back to Butzbach we cleaned up the car, did some washing, finished packing up, took the car to the garage where we keep our car for the winter, and said goodbye to our friends.  It was a good summer and I always am mindful to be so grateful that we get the opportunity to spend so much time abroad and with our family.  As many of you know, we have been back home for almost a month now as the children started school on the 3rd of August.

Dearest Kelleyn,
It is such a joy to indulge, or — overindulge in all the culture and history in Germany!
You got the photos and already plans for next time and the year will quickly fade out again...
Hugs,
Mariette

Your family has a good time everywhere you are. Great pictures and it is a very nice looking town.
