Quick Stop in Berlin

On our way home from Poland, we stopped in Berlin and when I say quick it was literally just for three hours.  The first stop was the Berling Wall.  We wanted to show the wall to the kids because this is what separated our family from one another.  My husband's mother escaped East Germany when she was a little girl with her family.  We talked to the children about what it meant to be in the west and what it meant to be in the east.  We then went to the Jewish Memorial and we talked to the children about the Nazi regime and all the harm they did.  How they killed 6 million Jews for just being different. Then the big kids went off for sushi.  The restaurant was so cool with one of those revolving belts where you could choose what plates you want to eat.  The little kids and I grabbed a Bratwurst.  Always a good choice.  Then right as we left the city we stopped off at the Wall Memorial.  What touched us the most was seeing the names of those who died in the pursuit of freedom months before the wall fell. It was a memorable 3 hours and we could have explored Berlin for many days.  So much history!

We have a section of the Wall in our War Museum.
Dearest Kelleyn,
That was another great history lesson for all the kids.
Glad you managed to squeeze this into your limited schedule.
There never seems to be enough time for seeing it all and in a way we can digest it.
Hugs,
Mariette
indeed so much history we should not forget

How wonderful to have these things to show your children and discuss. Your photos are a great memory of that stop.

Thanks for sharing your link at My Corner of the World this week!
