Owen

 Owen Joseph Nerney

Mr. Owen Joseph Nerney, 80, Atlanta, passed away peacefully, on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, in the Emory Decatur Hospital following a seven-year battle with Alzheimer’s.  Owen was born on September 12. 1940 in Lowell, Massachusetts, son of Owen Anthony Nerney and Agnes Rita Morris.  Following his graduation from Dracut High School in 1958 where he played on the Basketball and Football team, Owen served in the United States Airforce where he was stationed in Istanbul, Turkey. He served for 4 years.  After discharge, Owen returned to Dracut where he worked various jobs which included Massachusetts Bell Telephone Company, and McGraw Lab.  He retired in 2004 from the City of Lowell Parking Authority where he was a manager. In 2004, Owen moved to Mesa, Arizona where he enjoyed plenty of sunny days, and later moved to Atlanta, Georgia to be closer to family. While Owen never married, he had a beautiful daughter, Kelly, who was born in 1971. Owen was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Owen attended St. Michaels in Lowell, Massachusetts, and later Christ the King in Atlanta, Georgia.  Owen found joy in life and was always smiling.  He loved a good party, and a good joke, and was a true New Englander in every sense.  He loved the New England Patriots, the Red Sox, lobster, and clams.  In his free time, one would find him playing cribbage or Pinochle, doing the daily crossword, or making frequent trips to the White Mountains, Maine, or Florida. Owen is preceded in death by his parents.  Survivors include his daughter Kelly Rothaermel and son-in-law Dr. Frank Thomas Rothaermel of Cumming, Georgia.  His grandson Harris Rothaermel of Provo, Utah.  His grandson Winston Rothaermel of Hildesheim, Germany.  His grandson Roman and three granddaughters, Adelaide, Avery, and Ivy Rothaermel of Cumming, Georgia.  No funeral services will be held at this time.  A wake in his honor will be announced and held in the summer of 2022.

Dearest Kelleyn,
For some reason, I've missed this last year...
Happy that now finally you could disperse his ashes.
Some very happy moments captured on camera!
Those live on with family.
