Neuschwanstein

Neuschwanstein is the classical fairytale castle.  It is the castle that Walt Disney modeled Cinderella's castle off of when he built Disneyland.  I am pretty sure if you say castles in Germany this castle is the one that comes to most peoples minds as it is often used for travel posters and promotions of Germany.  My husband took me to Neuschwanstein almost 21 years ago when we were on our honeymoon, and I wanted the children to see it as well.  Roman wasn't that thrilled but was happy when it came time to get dessert.  Addy was beyond thrilled!  She was sad to learn though that Cinderella did not live here. Neuschwanstein is located in the city of Fussen about 90 minutes south of Munich and around a 5-hour drive from Frankfurt or our home here in Butzbach. The area is stunning a definitely worth visiting if you ever come to Germany.  During the high tourist season, the lines for tickets can be pretty long so I would advise going online and reserving tickets in advance.  We choose not to go inside as I wasn't sure how much the children would enjoy from going inside. It is very lovely.  Built by King Ludwig II, he loved the arts and just about bankrupted Bavaria in the process.  The people were not too thrilled.  A little mystery in regards to his death still has everyone talking. Was he murdered or did he drown himself?  Regardless, his body was found in a nearby lake.  The hike to the castle is a good little hike, but no worries because you can take a shuttle bus to the castle or you can take a carriage ride for an extra fee.  The kids got a kick out of the carriage ride.

Wow it is a beautiful castle and lovely countryside too. Not too surprising your son wasn't thrilled ... castles are kind of a girl thing don't you think? (I'd love to visit -- inside too!!)

Mesmerizing views!
The food (cake, soup, ice-cream,juice)looks very appetizing! At their age, the kids don't have to count calories:)

I have a book about King Ludwig -- I need to revisit it. It certainly is gorgeous. It seems as though I read that the Nazis stashed confiscated art and gold here during WWII. I'm pretty sure it's this one. It looks like a good day out -- including dessert.

Oh my! All those people on the bridge. That's the 'real' shot of those tourist destinations...but what are you going to do! Ha!

What stunning scenery. I've always wanted to visit there!
As for you question on my blog: Yes, it's true that there are no snakes or large natural predators in New Zealand. We do have spiders, but none of them will kill you.
What magnificent scenery. You must be in a hurry to wake up each day.
