Collections

Do you collect anything? As a child I collected patches. The kind you iron on your backpack or sew on. The ones that had pictures from states or cities. I found so much joy in those patches. They were a declaration to where I had been. Funny to think back on it that I have always loved to travel. My mother collected porcelain ducks. They were all the rage in the 80's. I use to joke with her that when she died not to leave them to me. My grandmother collected spoons. I remember my mother carefully searching Europe for spoons when I was 17 and we were backpacking Europe for 10 weeks. They were treasures to my grandmother who would never have a chance to go overseas. Today I no longer collect anything. I find that collections or things begin to own you, but since I am not the only person in my house we have many things. Sometimes I think to much stuff; especially when you compare it to other families around the world. My boys have collections. First it began with Web Kinz. Between the three of them they have 25 of them. Then came Pokemon cards. These I kind of despise because I find them all over the house. Then came Baklugan Balls. Little plastic balls that when they come into contact with a magnet they spring open and display some little monster/dragon guy. They are my boys treasures.

I can see from your photos that it is some years ago I have had small kids ... my son, though, had pokémon too.
I used to collect coins from foreign countries I had been to when I was a child:)

We haven't gotten into Baklugan Balls or Webkins but we were totally into Pokemon for a while. I think we spent hundreds of dollars on them! Yikes!

You are so right about the risk of collections and things owning you! Pokemon cards were (are?) a huge hit here too.

boys will be boys;) big hugs hello!
I don't collect a particular item anymore.... I am fed up with clutter.. No children at home either but my husband collects whatever he can find ha ha ha

My mum collects spoons too .. she has hundreds of the them, I scout around when on my travels, but I do not want them .

Someday those Baklugan Balls will be worth a lot of money! Or not. :)
I have to agree with you about "collections eventually own you". However, I do enjoy collecting antiques. :)

My youngest likes to collect rocks of all things!

I love your reflections on collections. Beautiful the way you tie it to your son's collections, and I'm staring now at the Pokemon card that says 'energy' and feel a lovely energy that passes from what you've discovered from your collections and your travels , on to your boys and the 'travels' they are embarking on.
happy day to you, xo

Yes, I know what you mean about having too much stuff. I try to keep it to a minimum - it begins to feel like a burden doesn't it? :^)

I like to read what could be the history of your family... There is joy, love, people that care each other (I don't know if I can say it like that in english...

And lovely pictures for lovely kids !
