Oma and Opa are here!

Oma and Opa are here! They arrived on Valentines Day! We are so happy to have them here. They came to help us move out of our house and move into our new house next week. The boys are so happy; especially, Roman who has a new audience to entertain and be entertained by. Another benefit of having Oma here is that she is cooking for us. On Tuesday, she made us roladen, spaetzle, querken salat, and Marmarkucken. Yummy! I don't know if the boys are going to let them go home.

Here is the recipe for the cake:
2 Sticks of butter plus 2 tablespoon
4 eggs
a pinch of salt
a Tablespoon of vanilla
a 1/2 cup milk
200 grams of sugar or 250 grams if you like your cakes sweeter
350 grams of flour
2 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder
3 Tablespoons of cocoa powder.
in a mixing bowl cream together sugar until the mixture is soft and creamy. Add vanilla and eggs one by one. Then add flour, salt, and baking powder and mix then slowly add the milk. In a greased bundt pan add 2/3 of the cake mixture in the remaining add cocoa powder. If the mixture seems so stiff just add a splash of milk and mix. Then add the remaining cake batter to the pan stirring in the chocolate to create a marbling effect. Bake at 350 degrees for an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes. The cake should be done in the center. Allow to cool then turn out onto a plate and dust with powder sugar. Whip cream is optional but is very traditional for Germany. Guten Appetite!

Oh, wie schön! Die Oma und der Opa sind endlich da! I hope you are enjoying your time with them! Are your boys speaking German with them?

There is one thing that I am curious about... how many nights have you had to eat sandwiches for dinner? ; )

I just read the good news! Hooray! ... a little girl that is courageous enough to join the world with three older brothers! Congrats and good luck with your move.
