Pleasure in the Simple Things "Corner View"

In college, I often found my self stressed over various things such as grades, dating, money, and who knows what.  I have to say that I didn't enjoy the journey very much and may have been found to have said, "I will be happy when _______."  When I get an A, When I get more money, When I get married.  Now with age I realize I should have enjoyed the journey.  Maybe that is easy for me to say now that I am married,  have graduated from college, and have more money.  The thing is I have realized that arriving at a certain destination doesn't make you happy.  You have to choose to be happy.  Happiness is often found in the little things like blowing bubbles.  By the way Addy learned how to say bubbles today.  Happiness is baking this yummy pineapple upside down cake, kissing the head of a bald baby, swinging on the swings at a play ground, blowing bubble gum bubbles with your 10 year old, the smell of spring coming in ones kitchen window, or watching your children work side by side with their father out in the garden without complaint.  So if you find yourself wishing for happiness begin to count your blessing and with in just a matter of time you will find that happiness is right beside you and not somewhere far off in the distance.
p.s doesn't just looking at this cake I made make you happy.  It did me!

Date Night "Sunday Snapshot"

To night I am going on a date

With this Guy. I am so excited. We are going to go see a hockey game. My husband is joining us along with my oldest son Harris. It is time to get ready and rumble! Hope you are having a great weekend. It is sunny here today, and for that I am greatful. This past week has been awefully cold and dark. It makes me grumpy. 5 senses "Corner view"

Sight:  I never get tired of looking at this little boy!  I love the freckles across his nose.  The sweet smile and his sparkle in his eyes.  He is such a good boy and I am so lucky to be his mom.

Smelling:  Chocolate and vanilla linger in the air tonight after making brownies with a new recipe I created.  Will share soon.  They are simple and yummy!

Taste:  These days I am loving  the taste of Mexican food, but I have been experimenting with lots of new recipes.  We need to switch it up here in our house!

Touch! These days I am touching my camera a lot these days as I am taking another photography class.  This time on-line. 

Sound:  The minute the door chime dings, she runs to the door and says, "Papa, Papa."  She also has learned how to make the sound for  that cars make -broom.

Playing in the Rain


Finally the sun has come out!  I was just about to scream from all the gloomy weather!  I love my sunshine!  Addy didn't mind though and decided if you can't beat it you might as well enjoy it.  She discovered the joy of jumping in rain puddles.  It is Friday and I couldn't be more happier!  How about you, do you have any plans for the weekend!  I hope your weekend if filled with sunshine and if not, then why not do some puddle jumping.  Have a great weekend!

You Can

You can teach an old dog new tricks! Yesterday, I took a photography class and I finally learned how to shoot my camera not on automatic! While for some that might not seem like a big deal it is for me. I am so thrilled that I have all ready acomplished one of my goals for 2013! I know I still have a long way to come to becoming a really great photographer, but it is a start. The light bulb came on! Afterwards, I took my son Winston on a date to celebrate. He had raspberry sorbet and I had the salted carmel truffel ice cream. I am going to follow up the class with another class that I am taking on line that will last a month. How was your weekend? Did you learn anything new?

Look Don't Touch "Corner View"

When you have an 18 month old, you probably say a gazillion times a day don't touch and boy is it hard for these little ones because that is how they learn about the world is by touching.  Thankfully,our house is pretty kid friendly so I don't have to worry to much about Addy getting into things she shouldn't; however, a Shepard lost his hand during the process of putting away the Christmas decorations.  Addy thought she would help and broke the pour guys hand off.   At 18 months Addy is kind of a look don't touch kind of girl.  She is extremely independent  and not very cuddly.  Always on the go!  She has added some new words to her vocabulary such as kitty cat, dog, baby, Har for Harris, and ball.  She loves to shake her head and I think she loves to feel her curls sway across the nape of her neck because she doesn't just shake it once but several times.  She loves to carry around her little purse and loves to clean.  She is always putting things back where they are suppose to go.    To see more corner views visit Francesca.

Hi!  Did you have a great weekend!  We did!  On Saturday, I took Winston bowling with his friend Matthew.  They had a great time.  I rented a movie "The Life of Timothy Green."  Such a great movie!  A box of tissues is necessary for watching this movie. Then I spent some time reading a book called "The Art of Racing in the Rain."  My oldest son read it first for school and now I am reading it! Do you ever read books your children read.  He likes it when I read his books. I am not really sure if the book is appropriate for a 13 year old.  It is pretty heavy and has some really grown up topics.  The boys went back to school today.  It was nice to get back to my routine.  Other than that, not much is going on.  I am taking a photography class this coming weekend, and I am so excited.  I am determined to really understand my camera this year.  Well, I better get going.  I need to go start dinner.  I think I am going to make meatloaf.    Before I go, I just wanted to show you the Christmas quilt I made with my mother before I put it away.  I really like how it came out!  Hope you are having a great Monday!  What did you do this weekend?

A few things

Do you ever feel like you have a ton to say, but at the same time nothing to say.  I don't even know if this makes any sense, but this is how I feel at the moment.  Christmas vacation has been oddly uneventful, but at the same time we have been busy too; however, the busy wasn't stressful and even relaxing.  The boys have been busy visiting with friends like today they went to SkyZone with their friend Rohith.  Yesterday, Winston went to see the movie Parental Guidance with his friend Matt.  He said the movie was hilarious.  I went to see Les Miserables with my mom;  Ann Hathaway should have gotten her hair back at the end.  I mean she was in Heaven.  The  cinematography was beautiful, but I thought the movie was way too long. Some of the cast sang fantastic while others were so so.  Overall it was still good.  Today, I went to lunch with my mom, my good friend Marchet and her son Peter.  Afterwards, Peter and Roman had a play date.  I know this sounds hardly uneventful.  I guess the strange thing for me is that we didn't go anywhere this vacation.  No trip to Florida, No cruise, No skiing in Utah, and everyone was still happy.  Maybe, there is a lesson to be learned in this.  I don't know if it is because the boys are getting older and they can entertain themselves or what, but they were really happy to be home.  Most days didn't even start till 8 or 9 and for one member of our family even 10 or 11.  I think there were even a couple of days we didn't even get out of our jammies.

Split Pea soup is yummy!  I made it for the first time for my kids and they loved it too!  Addy who doesn't eat anything gobbled it down.  It is super easy to make.  I had about 5 slices of ham left over from Christmas.  I took two of those and sliced them up into tiny pieces and in olive oil fried them up.  Then I removed the ham from the pan and I threw in one diced onion, 2 peeled and diced up carrots, and two diced stalks of celery in the leftover oil.  I made the dice on these three veggies really small.  Once these were cooked until soft, I added the remaining three slices of chopped ham along with 1 pound of dried split peas and 7 cups of chicken stock.  You can use water.  Along with 2 teaspoons of salt and 1 teaspoon of pepper.  Then add 1 teaspoon of thyme and 2 bay leaves.  Simmer until peas are soft.  This takes about an hour to an hour and a half.  When the peas are soft remove the bay leaves from the soup.  I like my soup a little on the chunky side, so I did not but in a blender to make smoother.  Add in the fried ham and serve with a great loaf of bread.  This soup with become extremely thick if left over night, so you will need to add water or more broth.  Serve with a great loaf of crusty bread.

What's going on with the adoption?  Those who are familiar with the adoption process know the first stages of the process go pretty slow.  You have a ton of paperwork to fill out and you wait for certain documents to be returned by government agencies.  These documents are part of a package called a dossier that are eventually sent to China.  You also have to have a homestudy completed by a social worker.  Our homestudy is complete and we have most of that paperwork completed.  We are know waiting for what is called 1-800A to be returned from Homeland security.  We can wait up to 90 days before this document is returned.  Also, in this time frame my husband and I will have to get finger printed.  Many have asked us have we seen our child.  The answer is no.  We will be matched once our documents are sent to China and we have what is called a Log in Date.  What we do know is our child is a daughter.  She will be under three years old, but will not be a newborn.  She will most likely be over 9 months old.

Happy New Year!

We kicked off the New Year  around 5:00 pm when we invited the neighbor children over to hang with us so their mom and dad could enjoy dinner by themselves.  Roman was thrilled to have his friends over.  They played batman, eat mac and cheese, and took a bath together.  Once they went home The bigs and I ate Hungarian Stew which was a new recipe for our family.  They loved it!  So delicious!  We broke out the fireworks out early to spare the neighbors some of the noise and also to keep us from being up all night!  I think I have just realized that boys love fire.  Afterwards, papa came home from work and we made a photo booth, had a dance party rocking in the night to Payphone by Maroon 5, Scream by Usher, Dynamite by Taio Cruz, and the boys favorite right now Gangnam Style.  We worked up an appetite with all our dancing and had brownie ice cream sundaes.  Then it was time to watch the ball drop in New York city on the television with Ryan Secrest while missing Dick Clark 10, 9, 8, 7, 6 5, 4, 3,2, 1.

Addy didn't understand that we had stayed up late and was awake by 7:30 a.m. It is raining outside which has been pretty much the case most of Christmas break.  So wishing we had gone to Aruba. I am now on my third full course pretend meal of chicken, corn, hamburger with cookie on it, and ice cream float.  Addy and Roman have pulled out the play food.  Addy is about to go down for a nap and Roman and I will watch Spider-man   I hope you had a wonderful New Year!  Did you do anything fun?  Did you stay home or go out!
